Wuhai, Inner Mongolia- No sign of trapped miners
Despite search efforts there are no signs of life at the Luotuoshan Coal Mine in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. 31 miners remain trapped underground and their bodies unaccounted for, Monday. Rescue officials bought new equipment in over the weekend to search for the bodies of the miners, but no life was recorded underground. SOUNDBITE:(Chinese) Lan Yi, Emergency rescue headquarters "Rescuers are trying their best to connect with the trapped miners. A newly bought camera, costing 300,000 yuan (43,940 U.S.dollars), was sent to the hole on Monday morning. Through it, rescuers can see the underground mining platform clearly. There is a manager in charge at the rescue scene day and night, and 80 rescuers are working at the site with other 150 rescuers standby at any time." Lan says one of the three previously used detectors was only showing blurred images, while the other two were unsuitable for working deep underground. Underground
Nanping,Fujian- Homes destroyed, villagers without power
As rain continues in south China's Fujian province, villagers are struggling to come to terms with the disaster that has destroyed their homes and crops. Huge rain and hail storms hit the region Friday. On Monday, villagers are distraught, trying to deal with the overpowering loss to their livelihoods. Shaowu County, in north Fujian, is suffering the most serious damage. The entire town is covered in debris, mostly fallen from the roofs of villagers homes. SOUNDBITE (Chinese): Villager, Heping Town "80% of the roofs have been destroyed. Only 20 tiles out of 100 can be saved. We have no idea what to do. It is also raining in the house, the same as outside. It rains everywhere, in and out." Power is also out in the town, making it difficult for villagers to work during the nights. Toronto- Chinese delegation attends mining expo
Seeking to capitalise and learn from Canada's rich mining experience, Chinese investors and geologists are in Toronto this week for a mining convention. More than 70 Chinese conversed with Canadian mining experts at the 78th Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada convention, Monday.
